Patricia Álvarez

Patricia Álvarez (b.1954, Aguascalientes, Mexico)

Patricia Alvarez’s works are at the same time forms of thought and “fundamental object of contemplation that consider fiber and textiles as sculptural medium to express emotions, ideas, energy and concepts. Her minimalistic yet painstaking work subtly poeticizes and reflects the ways humans build memories and construct identities. In her practice, she defines principles of assemblage to consider feelings through personal connections and suggestions rather than a direct reference to Holocaust death, the disappearance and violence in Mexico or the extinction of biological life forms under particular situations in human life evolution and in large cities. Those forms inspired by traumatized situations form something of our spirit and, at the same time, allow light to subtly spurt out and create a kind of optimistic encounter.
